In 2015, Ankur Gopal's tech consulting firm was turning away Fortune 100 clients because he couldn't find enough talent. His solution didn't involve poaching engineers from Silicon Valley.He looked at the people already living in Louisville, Kentucky (with non-traditional backgrounds, community college degrees, or no degree at all) and bet they had the aptitude for software development. He assessed them, built a curriculum around what his clients actually needed, and put them to work.
That pivot became Interapt, and what started as one entrepreneur solving his own problem is now a national model for workforce development. The numbers are hard to argue with:
– 90%+ apprenticeship completion rate
– 80%+ of graduates placed with employer partners
– 25%+ promoted within their first year
– 86% retention rate after four years
But Interapt's real innovation isn't a curriculum. It's coaching and mentorship. Success coaches who meet weekly with apprentices, acknowledge doubts and fears, and help people believe they belong in careers they never thought were available to them.
