Protests erupted in Abuja as demonstrators demanded the release of separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu, who faces seven terrorism charges. Nigerian police fired teargas, blocked major roads, and patrolled the capital with water cannons and armoured vehicles to contain crowds. Organisers claim several individuals, including Kanu’s family and legal team, were arrested, though authorities have not confirmed this. Kanu, 58, holds British citizenship and leads the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which advocates secession for Nigeria’s southeast region.
