Задолго до того, как в океанах стали господствовать большие белые акулы, косатки и даже мегалодон, под волнами уже охотился другой гигантский хищник. Учёные, изучавшие ископаемые позвонки, найденные неподалёку от Дарвина в Австралии, обнаружили свидетельства существования огромной древней акулы, длина которой могла достигать 8 метров. Это больше, чем у большинства современных больших белых акул. Возраст этих окаменелостей поражает — им около 115 миллионов лет. Эта находка отодвигает появление гигантских акул на десятки миллионов лет в прошлое и ставит под сомнение прежние представления исследователей о доисторических океанах. В этом видео мы расскажем об открытии, древней экосистеме, в которой господствовал этот хищник, и о том, почему его существование заставляет учёных по-новому взглянуть на эволюцию гигантских морских охотников.
