May 14, 1978 - In his third NBA season and first with the SuperSonics, Gus Williams averaged 18.3 points per game in the postseason, helping Seattle earn their first trip to the NBA Finals, where they'd ultimately fall to the Washington Bullets. In Game 5 of his team's Western Conference Finals matchup with the Denver Nuggets, Williams finished with a team-high 31 points in a 123-114 loss.

Williams would return to the postseason with a vengeance the following season, averaging 26.7 points (including 29 points per game in the Finals) in helping lead the Sonics to their one and only NBA championship, taking out the Bullets in an NBA Finals rematch.
