In an exclusive interview with DW’s Chief Political Editor Michaela Küfner, the leader of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group Jens Spahn said that when it comes to resolving major international conflicts - from Gaza to Ukraine - the United States is the decisive actor. He credited former President Donald Trump with securing the recent hostage release and ceasefire in the Middle East. On chances for peace in Ukraine, Spahn said: “Only the US President can make that difference” when Trump and the Russian President Vladimir Putin meet in Budapest - although he added China can also play a role.Spahn also spoke about stability within Germany's coalition government and his approach to dealing with the rise of the far-right AfD.
