Iran open to nuclear talks but warns of 'ferocious' response to any US attack
Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for the Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a press conference in Tehran that his country will not accept unrealistic demands and warned foreign powers cannot impose their will on Iran.He stressed sanctions relief is essential to any deal with the United States and insisted Iran’s nuclear programme is peaceful and open to confidence-building measures.
He added Tehran could consider steps such as voluntary protocols if economic restrictions are lifted.
Baqaei said any military strike would be treated as aggression and met with self-defence, rejecting the idea of “limited” attacks.
On regional issues, he noted cooperation with Afghanistan is possible and formal recognition of its government remains under consideration.
He accused Israel of threatening regional stability and called for unity among regional states.
Responding to comments by Nancy Pelosi, he said sanctions target Iranian citizens and violate human rights.
Ali Akbar Dareini is a researcher at the Center for Strategic Studies, an Iranian think-tank.
He says talks in Geneva could yield a deal if sanctions end, but Iran will not abandon enrichment or accept security concessions sought by Donald Trump.
