Starship Version 3 Flies! | This Week in Spaceflight
Starship Version 3 has officially flown.SpaceX launched Starship Flight 12 with Booster 19 and Ship 39 from Starbase, marking the debut of Starship V3 with hundreds of upgrades—including Raptor 3 engines, increased propellant capacity, redesigned control systems, and Starlink V3 payload testing.
The mission delivered dramatic moments: a booster engine failure during boostback, a possible Raptor explosion, a failed landing attempt, but also a successful Ship reentry, controlled atmospheric maneuvering, payload deployment, and splashdown in the Indian Ocean.
But that’s not all.
This week in spaceflight we also go inside ESA’s upcoming Plato exoplanet telescope, look at Vast’s surprising move into satellites, ISRO’s attempt to privatize PSLV, Psyche’s Mars flyby images, Isar Aerospace’s strange Canadian expansion, The Exploration Company’s Nyx milestone, Blue Origin’s return-to-flight approval for New Glenn, Rocket Lab’s cracked Neutron test article, and all the latest launch activity worldwide.
