Nella serata di lunedì piazza del Popolo si è fatta più buia. Intorno alle 19:45, un passante ha ripreso l'albero di Natale con le luci centrali completamente spente. Il danno potrebbe essere stato causato dal maltempo che si è abbattuto sulla Capitale causando danni e disagi in tutta la città. L'albero, un Abies Nordmanniana di oltre 20 metri di altezza, è stato inaugurato l'8 dicembre dal sindaco di Roma Roberto Gualtieri. Realizzato da Roma Capitale, in collaborazione con l'operatore economico Rattiflora Sas, che ha fornito la pianta e l'allestimento con sfere colorate oro, argento e rosse, è costato quasi 127 mila euro.
