Anggota DPR RI, Novita Hardini, menyatakan Komisi VII DPR tengah memperjuangkan Rancangan Undang-Undang (RUU) Pariwisata sebagai payung hukum perlindungan bagi destinasi wisata strategis nasional, termasuk Raja Ampat.“RUU ini kami dorong agar kawasan ekowisata seperti Raja Ampat memiliki dasar hukum yang kuat, supaya tidak bisa disentuh oleh aktivitas eksploitasi yang merusak. Hilirisasi boleh, tapi jangan tempatkan di lokasi yang menjadi wajah Indonesia di mata dunia. Pemerintah pusat dan daerah harus segera menghentikan izin tambang baru di Raja Ampat dan melakukan audit menyeluruh terhadap IUP yang sudah terbit,” ujar Novita di Jakarta, dikutip dari Antara (4/6/2025).
Novita menyampaikan penolakan tegas terhadap aktivitas tambang nikel di Raja Ampat, Papua Barat Daya, kawasan yang telah ditetapkan sebagai Global Geopark oleh UNESCO.
Menurutnya, aktivitas tersebut melanggar UU No. 1 Tahun 2014 tentang Pengelolaan Wilayah Pesisir dan Pulau-Pulau Kecil, yang mengatur bahwa pemanfaatan pulau kecil harus diprioritaskan untuk pariwisata, konservasi, budidaya laut, dan penelitian.
Sementara itu, Menteri ESDM Bahlil Lahadalia akan mengevaluasi aktivitas pertambangan di kawasan tersebut berdasarkan hasil kajian amdal.
Tagar #SaveRajaAmpat kembali ramai setelah aktivis Greenpeace Indonesia dan empat pemuda Papua menggelar aksi protes terhadap tambang dan hilirisasi nikel, bersamaan dengan pidato Wakil Menlu Arif Havas Oegroseno di Indonesia Critical Minerals Conference 2025, Jakarta (3/6).
Pada 2024, Greenpeace menemukan aktivitas tambang di sejumlah pulau di Raja Ampat: Pulau Gag, Pulau Kawe, dan Pulau Manuran—yang telah kehilangan lebih dari 500 hektare hutan dan vegetasi khas. Dua pulau kecil lainnya, Batang Pele dan Manyaifun, juga terancam oleh rencana eksploitasi nikel.
