Palästinensische Häftlinge entlassen
Israel hat nach Angaben seiner Strafvollzugsbehörde im Gegenzug für die Freilassung von Geiseln durch die Hamas fast 2.000 palästinensische Häftlinge freigelassen. Insgesamt seien heute 1.968 Häftlinge aus mehreren Gefängnissen entlassen und ins Westjordanland sowie in den Gazastreifen gebracht worden, erklärte die Strafvollzugsbehörde.Zu ihnen gehören nach Angaben des israelischen Justizministeriums 250 Häftlinge, die zu Gefängnisstrafen verurteilt wurden.
Weitere rund 1.700 wurden von den israelischen Truppen während des zweijährigen Krieges im Gazastreifen gefangen genommen und ohne Anklage festgehalten. Menschenrechtsgruppen kritisieren die Haftbedingungen mit Isolation, Misshandlung und Krankheit.
