Stalemate between the government and the opposition over the Anti-Paper Leak Bill resolved; the opposition has signaled its willingness to discuss the bill today. Speaker Om Birla appealed to both the ruling party and the opposition to reach a consensus on the bill. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will participate in the House discussion on paper leaks today.
CJP claims that representatives of the Central Government have assured that no cases will be filed against protesters in any state. Following a late-night meeting, copies of orders from the Bihar and Assam governments were handed over. The CJP had previously warned of resuming the agitation if the agreement fell through.
The Bihar government has decided to withdraw 24 FIRs registered against protesters and release the 694 protesters who were detained. In Assam, too, 5 FIRs against protesters will be cancelled, and 13 protesters will be released. The West Bengal government will also cancel FIRs registered against protesters
