LIVE: The Philippines Alleges Chinese ‘Spy Structure’ at Disputed Scarborough Shoal | Spotlight
A fresh confrontation has erupted between China and the Philippines in the disputed South China Sea, centred around the Scarborough Shoal. Manila has accused Beijing of placing a floating platform near the atoll, raising fresh concerns over territorial expansion and maritime security in the region. According to Philippine authorities, the structure—reportedly about six metres wide—may include surveillance equipment and has been linked to concerns over increased Chinese monitoring activities. Satellite imagery shared by Manila suggests the platform is constructed using wooden planks, with individuals allegedly spotted on board. While the Philippines has lodged a diplomatic protest and reaffirmed its sovereign rights over the area, China has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for the structure. Beijing maintains its long-standing claim over the shoal and asserts its right to conduct scientific research in the region. Daniela Laurel tells you more.ALSO ON THE SHOW:
