President Trump posted on Truth Social that "a whole civilisation will die tonight," claiming "complete and total regime change" in Iran and adding that "47 years of extortion, corruption and death will finally end." In an Al Jazeera interview, Hassan Ahmadian, Associate Professor at the University of Tehran , said the harsher tone suggests Trump is "strategically in trouble" and becoming "angrier and more desperate" because Iran is refusing to capitulate. He dismissed Trump's reference to regime change or a coup as "unrealistic" for those who know Iran's political system, describing the threats as "dirty language" aimed at forcing Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz — which was "wide open before the war." On Trump's threat to destroy all of Iran's power plants within hours, Ahmadian called it an "operational impossibility" requiring thousands of hits, warning that Iran would retaliate harder, creating a "quagmire." He stressed that Iran's priority is to "stop the war, then we can negotiate," insisting Tehran will not negotiate "under fire" as that would put it in a weaker position.
