El 14 de julio se cumplen nueve años de la firma del Plan de Acción Integral Conjunto, más conocido como el acuerdo nuclear con Irán. El tratado se alcanzó en 2015 tras extensas negociaciones entre Irán, la Unión Europea, Estados Unidos, Rusia, Reino Unido, China y Alemania. Sin embargo, después de que el expresidente estadounidense Donald Trump asumiera el cargo en 2017, Washington se retiró del tratado en 2018 y volvió a imponer sanciones al país persa, argumentando que era el "peor acuerdo de la historia." En julio de 2019, Irán supuestamente excedió su límite de reservas de uranio y anunció su intención de seguir enriqueciéndolo.
