Netanyahu faces questions over Iran, Lebanon as US-Iran deal nears

As a US–Iran deal appears to be moving closer, a key Iranian demand remains for Israel to halt its attacks on Lebanon, although Israeli operations there continue. Israel has attempted to separate the Iran and Lebanon fronts, but officials acknowledge that Lebanon is increasingly being included in the wider negotiations. Many in Israel fear that any agreement brokered by US President Donald Trump could require concessions on Lebanon, despite concerns that Israel has not achieved its stated objectives there, including weakening Hezbollah and reshaping security dynamics along the border.
The prospect of a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran has been met with concern inside Israel, where opposition leader Yair Lapid says the country has not achieved its war goals. However, these remarks are also part of an intensifying domestic political debate, with competing parties trading blame over the handling of the conflict. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces growing pressure over both Iran and Lebanon, amid ongoing cross-border tensions. Residents in northern Israel report having to rush to shelters multiple times over the weekend due to sirens triggered by drones and rockets fired from southern Lebanon.
