Di sisi lain PBNU menekankan pertemuan itu bukan atas nama organisasi melainkan kunjungan pribadi.
Adapun nama kelima cendekiawan NU yang bertemu presiden Israel di antaranya, Gus Syukron Makmun, Dr. Zainul Maarif, Munawar Aziz, Nurul Bahrul Ulum dan Izza Annafisah Dania.
Ketua PBNU, Savic Ali menyesalkan pertemuan tersebut.
"Kita tidak tahu tujuannya apa dan siapa yang mensponsorinya. Ini tindakan yang disesalkan," kata Savic dalam keterangan di laman resmi NU, Minggu (14/7/2024) malam.
Ia menilai kunjungan itu sebagai tindakan yang tak memahami perasaan seluruh warga NU dan memperburuk citra NU di mata publik.
Terlebih PBNU saat ini mendukung kemerdekaan Palestina dan mengecam agresi militer Israel yang menewaskan puluhan ribu orang.
Savic menuturkan PBNU akan mengklarifikasi terkait tujuan kunjungan 5 tokoh tersebut ke Israel.
Sebelumnya beredar foto yang memperlihatkan Isaac duduk dengan mengenakan setelan jas warna biru gelap.
Sementara itu, kelima tokoh Nahdliyin terlihat berdiri di belakang Presiden Israel.
Mereka bersama 3 warga Indonesia lainnya.
Pertemuan itu disebut-sebut berlangsung di Yerusalem Barat pada pekan lalu.
