Welcome To The Jungle Movie Review & Analysis | Akshay Kumar | Ahmed Khan | First Cut
#WelcomeToTheJungle starring #AkshayKumar, #SunielShetty, #PareshRawal, #ArshadWarsi, #JohnnyLever, #RaveenaTandon, #JacquelineFernandez and #DishaPatani marks the return of one of Bollywood's biggest comedy franchises. Directed by #AhmedKhan, the film brings together one of the largest ensemble casts in recent Bollywood history. But does it live up to the legacy of the original Welcome, or is it just another nostalgia cash grab?In this episode of First Cut, Dabeet Singh reviews Welcome To The Jungle and breaks down why this may be one of Bollywood's funniest commercial comedies in years despite its flaws.
The story follows a washed-up Bollywood superstar, played by Akshay Kumar, who gets pulled into a bizarre plan to make the biggest flop in Bollywood history. What begins as a scam quickly spirals into a chaotic comedy filled with failed filmmakers, gangsters, washed-up actors and some of the most gloriously eccentric characters you'll see on screen this year.
The biggest surprise is that the film actually understands what many recent Bollywood comedies have forgotten.
Comedy isn't just about punchlines.
It's about creating funny people, throwing them into absurd situations, and letting the chemistry between them do the heavy lifting.
That's where Welcome To The Jungle succeeds.
Akshay Kumar looks like he's genuinely having fun again, reminding audiences why he became Bollywood's biggest comedy star in the first place. His banter with Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Arshad Warsi, Johnny Lever and Raveena Tandon brings back flashes of the old-school comic rhythm that made films like Welcome, Hera Pheri and Awara Paagal Deewana so memorable.
The ensemble cast is another major strength. Despite juggling so many recognizable faces, the film manages to give almost everyone a memorable moment without feeling like a celebrity cameo parade. Ahmed Khan deserves credit for balancing such a massive cast while keeping the comedy moving. Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever, Arshad Warsi, Rajpal Yadav, Raveena Tandon and Farida Jalal all leave an impression, while Jacqueline Fernandez and Disha Patani fit naturally into the film's larger ensemble.
The writing also deserves praise. Beneath the loud humour is a surprisingly self-aware satire of Bollywood itself. The film constantly pokes fun at celebrity culture, filmmaking, media and even its own absurdity. It feels like the writers were actually enjoying themselves instead of desperately trying to convince the audience they're funny. That old-school rhythm of character-driven comedy is something Bollywood has been missing for years.
Unfortunately, the second half loses some of that momentum.
The film gradually replaces comedy with action set pieces and lengthy chase sequences, drifting away from what made the first half so enjoyable. Some technical issues, including inconsistent dubbing, noticeable lip-sync problems and questionable CGI, also become difficult to ignore. While the film's self-awareness smooths over many of these rough edges, it can't completely overcome them.
Even so, Welcome To The Jungle is an encouraging reminder that Bollywood can still make entertaining commercial comedies when it prioritizes memorable characters, chemistry and smart comic writing over loudness and randomness.
Watch the full review and analysis to find out whether Welcome To The Jungle delivers the comeback Bollywood comedy fans have been waiting for.
