What if the very thing you call strength is actually costing you everything?For nearly two decades, Preetah Bolaky believed that handling everything alone, that is long nights, sheer willpower, never asking for help was what it meant to be strong. It got her from a bank clerk's desk to the boardroom as an Executive Director. But it also meant carrying every problem in silence, certain that asking for help was a sign of weakness.
Then she watched a senior leader with thirty years of experience do something she never expected: ask a junior colleague for their opinion. It made her question everything she believed about leadership and herself.
In this talk, Preetah shares the moment that changed how she sees strength, and why the people who rise the highest are rarely the ones who do it alone. Using the image of a fighter who never enters the ring without a corner, she makes the case that real strength isn't about having all the answers, it's about knowing you don't have to. Preetah Bolaky spent nearly two decades building a career in banking and finance, rising from a bank clerk in credit administration to Executive Director of a fintech company.
For much of that journey, she believed strength meant handling everything alone. That belief changed when a highly experienced CEO on her team consistently sought the opinions of others. Watching someone with decades of experience choose curiosity over certainty transformed her understanding of leadership and success.
The lesson extended beyond the workplace, influencing how she approaches relationships, family, and personal growth.
Originally from Mauritius, she now lives in Australia and remains fascinated by what helps people grow, connect, and reach their potential.
