The United States and Iran have entered a second consecutive day of direct military exchanges, marking the most serious escalation since the April ceasefire. Washington says its latest operation targeted Iranian coastal radars, missile positions, air defence systems, and key infrastructure near the Strait of Hormuz to prevent attacks on commercial shipping. Iran has responded with military action across the Gulf, while Kuwait activated its air defences and Bahrain issued air raid alerts. The US president has declared that the ceasefire is over and called peace talks a waste of time. Iran struck three commercial vessels near the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week. The US responded with over 80 strikes on Iranian targets, including sites near Bushehr, home to Iran’s only civilian nuclear power plant. Iran retaliated by striking US facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain. Iran’s military has warned that any country enabling US strikes would be a legitimate target.---
