L’Amministrazione Trump ha di recente chiuso una causa per omicidio colposo con 5 milioni di dollari di risarcimento per Ashli Babbitt, veterana dell’aeronautica militare che nei disordini a Capitol Hill del 6 gennaio 2021 – a cui avrebbe partecipato attivamente – è morta dopo un colpo di pistola sparato da un poliziotto: «Ogni morte è una tragedia – nota Buccini – ma tra questo e fare di quella donna un’eroina simbolo della patria, ci passa qualche distanza». A Babbitt verranno dunque concessi gli onori funebri militari: «Una scelta che ha sconcertato molti – continua -, come crea sconcerto la voce secondo cui Trump vorrebbe istituire un fondo per il risarcimento dei rivoltosi del 6 gennaio».
