Why doesn't Failure translate into action?
We've all been told that failure is the greatest teacher. But if that's true, why do so many of us keep repeating the same mistakes? Through the story of a student caught in the cycle of trying, failing, and starting over, this talk challenges one of our most common beliefs about growth. Blending psychology with personal experiences, it explores why failure alone doesn't create change, why our brains often pull us back into old habits, and how reducing unnecessary decisions can help turn intention into action. Ultimately, it invites the audience to see failure not as an automatic teacher, but as an opportunity that only becomes growth through consistent action. Avanti Narwade is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme student with a keen interest in psychology, human behaviour, and the science of personal growth. Fascinated by the way people think, make decisions, and overcome challenges, she enjoys exploring psychological concepts and translating them into practical ideas that can improve everyday life.

Beyond academics, Avanti has several years of experience in theatre and public speaking, where she has developed a passion for using stories to communicate meaningful ideas. Through this talk, she combines scientific research with personal reflection to encourage audiences to rethink failure—not as something that changes us on its own, but as the starting point for intentional, consistent growth. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx Receive SMS online on sms24.me
