So recently I had the opportunity to play 3 hours of Sega's and RGG's upcoming game, "Stranger Than Heaven," and it was seriously impressive. So let's talk about it. Before we get started, I want to make it clear that I was given special treatment. Not only was I able to play the game early, but I was also flown out to New York City, put up in a nice hotel room, and had all of my food and transportation costs covered. While this was an incredible opportunity, I remain diligent in delivering nothing but my honest opinion, not just to stay true to myself, but to also accurately represent the experience to all of you watching. You guys know me; I don't sugarcoat anything. So while this is a sponsored video, nothing that I'm about to say is being filtered. With that said... this game is really cool.
It's worth noting that my gameplay experience was divided into 5 separate segments highlighting the game's core features and different time periods rather than being one interrupted section. In that time, I got to experience some of the game's narrative, combat mechanics, and open-world exploration.
Stranger than Heaven tells the story of one "Makoto Daito," a half-American, half-Japanese man who flees the country after being framed for a crime he didn't commit. The narrative centers around the next 50 years of Makoto's life, focusing on the struggles that come with adapting to this new environment while also trying to survive the shady underbelly that lurks just below the public eye. The first few sessions of my demo demonstrated what to expect out of the narrative of Stranger Than Heaven. There's a large focus on the difficulties that come with staying true to your values in a world where people are often exploited by others. Without spoiling the specifics, Stranger Than Heaven has a dark and serious tone. RGG games tend to splash in comedic side quests or goofy activities to provide moments of levity; however, Stranger Than Heaven takes a different approach, fully committing to its serious tone and allowing us to really get into the mind of Makoto
Sega let me play Stranger Than Heaven Early. Here's what I thought. Stranger Than Heaven is the latest game from renowned studio RGG, and I got the chance to try Stranger Than Heaven Early. In this Stranger Than Heaven preview, I got to sample the Stranger Than Heaven combat, Stranger Than Heaven story, Stranger Than Heaven gameplay, and Stranger Than Heaven open world. While Stranger Than Heaven launches in January 2026, what was shown to me in this Stranger Than Heaven demo was polished and impressive. Stranger Than Heaven is an extremely unique and compelling experience that will surely leave an impact on everyone who tries it. There will be no Stranger Than Heaven spoilers in this Stranger Than Heaven preview video, nor is this a full Stranger Than Heaven review. When Stranger Than Heaven launches, I will consider doing a deep Stranger Than Heaven analysis, Stranger Than Heaven critique, and Stranger Than Heaven review, but that will only be after I have the time to sink into the game, as Stranger Than Heaven is quite big. Consider this a Stranger Than Heaven impressions video that focuses on the game's positive aspects.
