India’s Akash Air Defence System has expanded its international footprint, with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh confirming exports to Tajikistan and Turkmenistan after Armenia.

India’s defence exports reached a record ₹38,424 crore in FY 2025–26, up 62.66% from the previous financial year, according to the Ministry of Defence.

The Akash system is developed by DRDO, with Bharat Dynamics Limited as a key production agency and Bharat Electronics Limited involved in production of the system and associated electronics. Official government material describes Akash as a mobile, multi-target, short-range surface-to-air missile system.
