LIVE: Kim Jong Un Inspects Memorial for North Korea Troops Who Died in Russia-Ukraine War
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was seen inspecting the construction of a memorial dedicated to North Korean soldiers killed in the Russia-Ukraine war, according to state media footage. The visit included rare public appearances by Kim alongside his wife and daughter Ju Ae, who is widely speculated to be his successor. British intelligence claims that around 14,000 North Korean troops were deployed to Russia, with more than 6,000 reportedly killed. The deployment is believed to be linked to a strategic defence pact signed between Pyongyang and Moscow in June 2024. Kim Jong Un has repeatedly praised North Korean soldiers fighting in what he called an “alien land,” framing their role as strengthening the “invincible alliance” between North Korea and Russia. Moscow has also acknowledged the support, with Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly thanking Kim for military assistance.-----
