Mexico: Over 4,000 Flee Town as Drug Cartel Opens Fire, Burns Houses | Firstpost America

More than 4,000 residents of Tila town in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas were forced to flee after members of a drug cartel opened fire and burnt their houses and vehicles. The violence erupted last week and lasted for three days until the Mexican army arrived. Now, around 5,000 troops are patrolling the area but the displaced residents are too scared to go back to their houses. They are living in a makeshift shelter in the neighbouring town of Yajalon and this is probably the biggest mass displacement in Chiapas since 1997. However, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has depicted the assault as a conflict between the people of the town.
