We Tore Off Our Front Porch (Home Addition Ep. 3)

Episode 3 of our Home Addition series — the porch is officially gone. In this video I take down the front patio, remove the metal roofing (some hidden fastener panels I scored off Facebook Marketplace years ago), and use my Bobcat E32i mini excavator to clear out the old footings and steps.

This is prep work for a much bigger addition connecting to the north side of the house — so before any digging or foundation work starts, we had to clear this whole area out. I got quoted $15,000–$25,000 to have professionals handle the deck, porch, and chimney demo — instead I'm doing it myself and salvaging as much material as I can (posts, boards, metal roofing) to reuse later in the build.

If you're new here, this series follows the entire process of our home addition build — real costs, real decisions, real mistakes included. Subscribe to follow along.

Coming up in Episode 4: building temporary front steps, removing the concrete pad, and starting excavation for the addition.

⏱️ In this video:
Starting demo on the front patio
Removing metal roof panels
Mini excavator work (Bobcat E32i)
Salvaging materials for reuse
