Negli ultimi 15 trimestri l'Italia è cresciuta meno della media dell'Eurozona e sostanzialmente negli ultimi 6trimestri, come abbiamo visto, le cose non sono andate bene. Tuttavia, il confronto con la Germania è fondamentale, data dalla somiglianza delle due economie. In 8 degli ultimi 15 trimestri l'Italia è cresciuta di più, pensate, della Germania. Soltanto un trimestre in meno della Germania, dimostrando di avere retto molto meglio la bufera economica degli ultimi anni.
La maggiore diversificazione settoriale, meccanica, chimica, servizi, turismo dell'Italia, ha aiutato l'Italia, mentre la Germania ha subito il rallentamento di siderurgia chimica e automotive, cioè i tre pilastri dell'economia tedesca. Italia e Germania, cioè le due più grandi manifatture dell'Europa, si ritrovano, sia pure con alcune importanti differenze, sulla prima linea di fuoco di una guerra commerciale di dimensioni planetarie, il cui asse principale congiunge Pechino e Washington, con Bruxelles nel ruolo di spettatore, o peggio, obiettivo delle mire espansionistiche della Cina e degli Stati Uniti.
