Los líderes del grupo ampliado de los BRICS se reunirán en Río de Janeiro, Brasil, en una Cumbre de dos días centrada en el fortalecimiento de la cooperación entre los países del Sur Global.Se trata de la primera cumbre de los BRICS desde que Indonesia y diez países asociados se unieron al bloque, que ahora representa casi la mitad de la población mundial y alrededor del 30 % de la producción económica mundial, al tiempo que contribuye en más del 50 % al crecimiento económico mundial.
La Cumbre se celebra pocos días antes de la fecha límite del 9 de julio fijada por el presidente estadounidense Trump para los acuerdos comerciales con socios clave. El mundo está pendiente de la Cumbre de los BRICS en busca de soluciones hacia una gobernanza mundial más inclusiva y sostenible.
