March 20, 1998 - It's not often that a future Hall of Famer and top three draft pick plays for three different teams before playing 82 games but such was the case for Chauncey Billups. Selected third overall by the Boston Celtics in 1997, Billups played just 51 games before Boston sent him to Toronto in exchange for Kenny Anderson.Billups' Raptors career lasted just 29 games, averaging 11 points and 3 assists before being dealt again, this time to the Denver Nuggets. All told, Billups went through five franchises in the first five seasons of his career before signing a lucrative contract to become the Detroit Pistons' starting point guard in 2002.
The Pistons, one may imagine, got more than they bargained for. Billups developed into a five-time all-star who was also named Finals MVP in 2004 when he helped propel the Pistons to just their third championship in franchise history.
In this rookie matchup with the Pistons, Billups finished with 22 points (4-of-7 from deep) and 2 assists in a 105-99 loss to the Pistons.
