FEUERDRAMA VOR MONSCHAU: Hoher Venn in Flammen! Belgien und Deutschland kämpfen gegen das Feuer!
FEUER IM HOHEN VENN: Evakuierungen in Monschau und Belgien! So dramatisch ist der Kampf gegen die Flammen im NaturschutzgebietDer Waldbrand im Hohen Venn hält Einsatzkräfte auf deutscher und belgischer Seite weiter in Atem. Während der große Waldbrand im Hürtgenwald in Nordrhein-Westfalen inzwischen unter Kontrolle ist, bleibt die Lage beim Großbrand im Hohen Venn angespannt. Rund 3.000 Hektar sind von dem Feuer betroffen. Zeitweise kamen einzelne Brandherde bis auf etwa 300 Meter an deutsche Wohnhäuser heran.
Die Evakuierungen in Monschau bleiben deshalb vorerst bestehen. Rund 30 Bewohner aus Monschau-Kalterherberg, darunter Anwohner in Ruitzhof und Geisberg, mussten ihre Häuser verlassen und können bislang nicht zurückkehren. Der Regen reichte nicht aus, um den Brand bei Monschau zu löschen. Für die aktuelle Lage beim Feuer in Monschau bleibt zudem die Windentwicklung entscheidend.
Besonders gefährlich sind die Torfböden im Naturschutzgebiet Hohes Venn. Glut und Schwelbrände können sich tief im ausgetrockneten Torf halten und dort über lange Zeit weiterbrennen. Selbst Niederschläge bedeuten deshalb nicht automatisch Entwarnung.
