ATHEN: Hoffnung für Raubkatzen – Tiger-Drillinge sollen bedrohte Art bewahren
Drei seltene Sumatra-Tigerjunge sorgen in einem Zoo nahe Athen für Aufsehen. Die erst zwei Monate alten Raubkatzen erkunden unter der Aufsicht ihrer Mutter Toba ihr Gehege und werden erstmals untersucht. Dabei erhalten sie Identifikationschips und die ersten Schutzimpfungen. Ein Jungtier wiegt bereits mehr als sieben Kilogramm. Die Namen der Tigerbabys sollen aus Homers Odyssee stammen. In freier Wildbahn leben auf Sumatra nur noch rund 400 Tiere. Zuchtprogramme in Zoos sollen dazu beitragen, das Überleben der bedrohten Großkatzen zu sichern.Quelle: AP
