Iran Ends Visa Waiver for Indians Amid Rising Fraud and Kidnapping Concerns | Spotlight | N18GIran has suspended its visa waiver facility for Indian nationals holding ordinary passports, with the change taking effect on November 22. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, several Indians were lured to Iran with false promises of jobs or onward travel, only to be kidnapped for ransom upon arrival. In response, Iran has withdrawn the visa-free entry system introduced in February 2024, which allowed Indians a 15-day tourist visit every six months. Travellers must now obtain visas for both entry and transit. The MEA has urged Indians to stay cautious and avoid agents offering visa-free travel routes.
