Tim besutan Indra Sjafri itu hanya diharapkan bisaa melaju ke babak semifinal dalam turnamen yang akan berlangsung di Surabaya, Jawa Timur, 17-29 Juli mendatang itu.
Manajer Timnas Indonesia U-19 Ahmed Zaki Iskandar, mengatakan bahwa pihaknya hanya ingin fokus melihat perkembangan pemain setelah tergabung dalam pemusatan latihan (TC).
Garuda Muda menghuni Grup A pada Piala AFF U-19 2024 bersama dengan Timor Leste, Kamboja, dan Filipina.
"Targetnya, kami ingin masuk empat besar," ujar Ahmed Zaki Iskandar, saat ditemui di kawasan Jakarta Selatan, Rabu (10/7/2024).
Sebelum tampil di AFF U-19, Garuda Muda sempat berlaga di Touloun Cup 2024, yang berlangsung di Perancis, 3-14 Juni lalu.
Sepulang dari Touloun Cup, Dony Tri Pamungkas Cs, sempat melakoni pertandingan uji coba melawan Tim Pelan Olahraga Nasional (PON) Sumatra Utara.
Termasuk, dalam Piala AFF U-19 ini, Zaki mengatakan pihaknya masih ingin melihat perkembangan para pemainnya.
Oleh sebab itu, Zaki berharap para pemain Timnas Indonesia U-19 bisa menampilkan performa terbaik dalam Piala AFF U-19 nanti.
Sasaran utama dari serangkaian 'percobaan' yang dilakukan oleh Garuda Muda ini adalah untuk Kualifikasi Piala Asia U-20 2025, 25-29 September 2024.
"Kami ingin mengetahui perkembangan dari tim yang sudah diseleksi. Itu saat tampil di Toulon dan kami panggil lagi untuk Piala AFF U-19," kata Zaki.
"Jadi, walaupun pasang target empat besar, kami ingin mereka menampilkan kemampuan terbaik, termasuk buat coach Indra juga," imbuhnya.
