Los frescos de la Capilla Herrera en el Prado

El Museo Nacional del Prado presenta la ‘reconstrucción’ de la Capilla Herrera que permite contemplar los frescos Carracci y su taller tal como fueron concebidos e instalados en altura. La capilla original, actualmente desparecida, se encontraba en la iglesia de Santiago de los Españoles en Roma, símbolo del poder de la monarquía hispánica en aquella ciudad.

Estas obras, que narran episodios de la vida de san Diego de Alcalá, fueron restauradas hace tiempo, fueron ya objeto de una gran exposición en 2022.

La instalación pone en valor un conjunto excepcional del barroco italiano, rescatado tras el desmantelamiento de la capilla en 1833 y conservado desde entonces entre Barcelona y Madrid. Los frescos, realizados entre 1602 y 1605, reflejan la maestría de Carracci y sus colaboradores, quienes trabajaron con un lenguaje pictórico unificado.
