If You Keep Saying ‘I’ll Start Studying in January’ as Someone Who Has a 9-5, Watch This
This month I’m running Beat the Clock. If you join my coaching before November 30, we start working with you straight away, and your three-month programme clock doesn’t start until January 1, so the rest of 2026 is free. I only have 10 spots. Apply for a 1:1 call here: https://calendly.com/tomsteam/study-strategy-call. If you’re on Instagram, you can also DM me “BTC”.Waiting for January feels sensible. Work is busy, the holidays are busy, and a new year feels like a fresh page. But if you work a 9-to-5 and you’ve been meaning to start a degree or certification for months, January usually arrives with no routine, no plan and several fewer weeks before your exam.
In this video, I break down five methods I use with people who study next to a full-time job. None of them need more hours. They help you get more from the ones you have. I start with the January trap and what each month of waiting really costs. Then I cover the Points Map, where you rank topics by how many marks they’re worth using the syllabus and past papers. Next is One Focused Hour, with the Five Focus Blockers to clear before you start. I also explain Quiz Me Again, which puts practice questions first and uses AI as a quiz partner instead of an answer machine. Last is the 10:30 Rule, a cut-off for new material, backed by a study of 39 people in which 17 to 19 hours awake produced results as poor as a 0.05% blood alcohol level on some tests.
I also cover the Month-Three Dip, the point where old habits tend to return, why that’s normal, and how to keep going through it.
You don’t have to wait for a new year to start. You just need a plan for the hours you already have. Receive SMS online on sms24.me
