Saudi Aramco has reportedly halted crude oil supplies to Indian refiners until further notice amid disruptions to Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline and continuing instability around the Strait of Hormuz and Red Sea. At the same time, Pakistan has introduced sweeping fuel-conservation and austerity measures, including a 50% cut in official vehicle fuel allocations, restrictions on new vehicle purchases, foreign travel curbs, early market closures and a one-dish rule at marriage functions.
The developments come as the Saudi-Houthi conflict intensifies and Pakistan reiterates its commitment to the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said Islamabad is prepared to fulfil its obligations under the pact following Saudi Arabia's interception of a Houthi drone near Mecca.
