This is the story of how Britain handed India its biggest and longest-running geopolitical headache.India's freedom was hard-won, paid for in sacrifice and pain. But it was not free of sabotage. As the Raj folded, British planners left behind a frontier deliberately unfinished: a divided Kashmir, a lost Gilgit-Baltistan, and a buffer state designed to keep India locked out of its own north.
