Youth-led protests are escalating in Madagascar, demanding the resignation of President Andry Rajoelina. Fresh demonstrations and a general strike have been called after the President sacked his government in an attempt to quell days of deadly unrest that have reportedly killed at least 22 people so far. Thousands rallied in the capital, Antananarivo, protesting repeated water and power cuts and deteriorating living conditions in one of the world's poorest countries. Police responded to the protests with tear gas and rubber bullets. The Gen Z protesters, whose demonstrations are symbolised by a pirate skull flag from the anime "One Piece," are echoing youth-led anti-government movements across Africa and Asia.---
