Verse 32
Om. Salutations to the Lord of all gods, Shiva, the Supreme Self.
You possess an immeasurable nature and manifest both as the manifest and unmanifest aspects of existence.
Verse 33
You are the Lord and master of yogis; everything is established in you.
You are the Yajna, the sacred Vashat invocation, the primordial Omkara, and the Lord of creation.
Verse 34
Beyond the many worlds and realms of existence shines a supreme divine light, which alone remains eternally radiant.
That supreme light is your own divine presence.
Verse 35
At the end of a cosmic age, when the universe rests within the vast cosmic manifestation, you remain its foundation.
Salutations to you, the radiant Tejolinga, the eternal pillar of divine light.
Verse 36
Salutations to you, whose name is Anamaya, the one beyond suffering.
Salutations to you who wears the hide, to Bhairavanatha, and to Someshvara, Lord of the Moon.
Verse 37
Through these sacred names, the immortal Lord is praised by divine beings of the past, present and future.
Shiva's glory transcends time itself.
🔱 The Eternal Names of Shiva
The following verses reveal how Shiva is praised by different sacred names associated with different manifestations of Brahma.
Verse 38 — Mrityunjaya
When Brahma was known as Viranchi, Shiva was praised as Mrityunjaya — the Conqueror of Death.
Verse 39 — Kalagni Rudra
When Brahma was known as Padmabhu, Shiva was known as Kalagni Rudra, the fierce Rudra who brings cosmic dissolution.
Verse 40 — Amritesha
When Brahma was known as Svayambhu, Shiva was praised as Amritesha, Lord of Immortality.
Verse 41 — Anamaya
When Brahma was known as Parameshthi, Shiva was remembered as Anamaya, the one untouched by affliction.
Verse 42 — Krittivasa
When Brahma was known as Surajyeshtha, Shiva was praised as Krittivasa, the divine Lord adorned with the hide.
He is also celebrated as Tripurantaka, destroyer of Tripura.
Verse 43 — Bhairavanatha
When Brahma was known as Hemagarbha, Shiva was praised as Bhairavanatha, the mighty Lord Bhairava.
🌙 Chandra and Somanatha
The later verses connect the hymn particularly with Chandra and Somanatha.
Chandra, described as arising from the divine eye, approaches Shiva's sacred linga for its establishment and worship.
In this manifestation, Shiva becomes celebrated as Somanatha — Lord of Soma/Chandra.
The passage emphasizes the immense antiquity and continuity of the worship of Shiva under this sacred name.
Verse 47
The speaker identifies himself as the seventh Brahma, known as Atreya.
Having been cursed by Daksha, he seeks refuge in Mahadeva and prays:
“O Lord of all gods, protect me. I am afflicted and suffering; I have come to you for refuge.”
The closing sentiment is therefore one of complete surrender to Shiva as the protector, healer and refuge of the devotee.
🔱 Overall Meaning
The heart of Chandrakritam Shiva Stotram is the recognition that Shiva is eternal beyond names, forms, worlds and cosmic cycles.
The hymn progressively describes Shiva as:
Paramatma → Omkara → Cosmic Light → Tejolinga → Mrityunjaya → Kalagni Rudra → Amritesha → Anamaya → Krittivasa → Bhairavanatha → Somanatha
It presents these names not as separate deities, but as different expressions of the one eternal Maheshvara.
🌙 Core devotional message:
Whatever the age, whatever the cosmic cycle, whatever the name — the eternal refuge remains Shiva.
