US President Donald Trump that Yemen's Iran-allied Houthi fighters, who have seized a vital shipping corridor linking Europe and Asia, have asked Washington not to intervene.The Houthis have taken control of Yemen's entire Red Sea coast after
capturing three strategic islands in a lightning offensive.
The fighting represents the first major test of the mutual defence
alliance that was signed between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and
Turkey last month, adding to a pre-existing pact between
Islamabad and Riyadh. Under the arrangement,
an armed attack on any one of the three countries
is to be regarded as an attack on all.
But right now Islamabad is just issuing carefully
worded statements condemning the Houthi attacks
instead of coming to the aid of Riyadh.
