È impossibile che questo avvenga. Si può tradurre in modi diversi. Ed è di grande significato quanto lei ha detto, Signora: non soltanto i 118 alberi al Bosco dei Faggi, ma anche le Borse di studio e i Premi di laurea, l’impegno a trasmettere e incoraggiare lo studio. Questi impegni hanno accompagnato il vostro impegno per la verità e perché vi fosse giustizia. Ma sono due elementi - gli alberi e le Borse di studio - che esprimono: il primo, il ricordo che non si estingue, ma va raccolto, conservato, curato; il secondo elemento - le Borse di studio e i Premi di laurea - la capacità di riversare il dolore in impegno di solidarietà per gli altri. Perché queste cose non avvengano più. Queste drammatiche evenienze. Impensabili. Ma anche perché si incoraggi la crescita, lo studio, l’impegno dei giovani. Questo riversare sul futuro il dolore in maniera positiva è una scelta non facile. È una scelta di grande valore. Per me essere qui, in questo anniversario particolare, è non soltanto una espressione doverosa, ma è anche cercare di far comprendere la vera vicinanza, autentica, sentita – personale, anche - per quello che è avvenuto, per il dolore che rimane, per l’impegno che avete coltivato in questi anni. Comunque per il futuro. Grazie per queste reazioni. Con grande, affettuosa, vicinanza". Così il Presidente della Repubblica Sergio Mattarella a Linate per commemorare le vittime dell'incidente aereo del 2001.
