Pulau Kalimantan rusak karena cengkraman tambang batubara. JATAM (Jaringan Advokasi Tambang) bilang, di Kalimantan ada 44 ribu lubang tambang. Jumlah ini, setengah dari total lubang tambang di Indonesia.JATAM bilang, aturan terhadap rehabilitasi lubang tambang tidak ketat. Maka tak heran jika lubang bekas galian tambang jadi mesin pembunuh. Data JATAM, ada sekitar 47 orang tewas.
Salah satu masyarakat adat di sana, namanya suku Dayak Basap, kena dampak. Area konsesi tambang, merangsek ke ulayat mereka. Mereka kian terpojok. Terancam terbuang dari tanah moyangnya sendiri.
Warga lainnya bilang, sejak aktivitas tambang masif beroperasi, mereka makin sulit tuai panen dari ladang. Kebun pisang terdampak. Buahnya jadi hitam-hitam. Belum lagi debu-debu batubara yang berterbangan, bikin penyakit ke warga desa. Aktivitas masyarakat yang biasanya berburu, kini jadi beralih. Sebab, hutan yang jadi hunian binatang-binatang, dibabat untuk tambang batubara.
2014 lalu JATAM membuat laporan. akibat aktivitas tambang batubara, ikan-ikan di sungai jadi mati. Sampai 2 ton beratnya. Kandungan timbal di sungai capai 90 ppm, sementara normalnya 5 ppm. Padahal sungai, vital bagi kehidupan masyarakat lokal.
Luas konsesi tambang di Kalimantan Timur capai 1 juta hektar dari total 500 izin tambang di sana. Kalimantan Timur dan Kalimantan Selatan dikenal sebagai lumbung emas hitam. Mengandung sumber daya dan cadangan batubara, puluhan miliar ton.
