Para su trabajo final, Hércules fue enviado al Inframundo para traer a Cerbero, el perro de tres cabezas de Hades. Tras purificarse en los Misterios de Eleusis, descendió guiado por Hermes, liberó a su amigo Teseo y se enfrentó a Hades, quien permitió el intento si Hércules no usaba armas. En una lucha brutal, el héroe dominó a Cerbero solo con fuerza bruta, lo presentó a un Euristeo aterrorizado y luego devolvió a la bestia ilesa, asegurándose la gloria eterna como el mayor héroe de Grecia.
