O compassionate Lord, uplift even me, though I am imperfect.
Grant me, your devotee, the supreme blessing of serving your sacred lotus feet.
Verse 2 — Burned by Worldly Attachment
My body and mind are scorched by the great fire of worldly existence.
My mind remains attached to possessions, family, relationships, home and worldly concerns, accumulating countless imperfections.
Whatever small amount of merit I may have gathered in the past has brought me to your remembrance.
O compassionate Hanuman, grant me devotion and service at your lotus feet.
Verse 3 — The Terrifying Well of Samsara
I have fallen into the immeasurable and terrifying well of worldly existence.
I am surrounded by countless forms of suffering, like one overwhelmed by poisonous serpents.
Having fallen into such a miserable condition, I have no other refuge.
O Lord, rescue me.
O compassionate Hanuman, grant me service at your divine lotus feet.
Verse 4 — The Ocean of Worldly Existence
I am distressed by the enormous ocean of samsara, where the mighty force of Time threatens to consume all beings.
My mind is restless and overwhelmed, while desire and attachment continually disturb me.
O compassionate Hanuman, lift me up from this helpless condition.
Grant me refuge at your sacred lotus feet.
Verse 5 — Lost in the Forest of Samsara
I wander through the terrifying forest of worldly existence.
I am tormented by the powerful beasts of desire and by the burning pain of jealousy and attachment.
My outer and inner understanding has become confused.
O compassionate Hanuman, rescue me from this bewilderment and grant me service at your lotus feet.
Verse 6 — The Tree of Samsara
The tree of worldly existence has countless branches formed from actions and accumulated karma.
Its leaves represent the senses and its flowers represent desire; its fruits are suffering.
Having climbed this enormous tree and fallen from it, I now seek your refuge.
O Hanuman, liberate me from this delusion.
Grant me the blessing of serving your lotus feet.
Verse 7 — Poisoned by Delusion
My body and mind have been overwhelmed by the terrifying serpent of worldly existence and its poisonous fangs.
I am disturbed by fear and confusion and have fallen into the deep cave of delusion.
My senses and desires remain uncontrolled.
O Hanuman, compassionate Lord, rescue me through your grace.
Grant me devotion and service at your sacred feet.
Verse 8 — The Thieves of the Senses
The thieves called the senses have stolen the great treasure of discrimination and spiritual understanding from me.
I have fallen into the net of worldly existence and become overwhelmed by its powerful forces.
O King of the Vanaras, I have taken refuge in your unsurpassed lotus feet.
Protect me, compassionate Lord, and grant me eternal service at your divine feet.
🌺 Verse 9 — The Phala Shruti
The final verse praises the glory of Hanuman, whose sacred feet are honored by the crowns of Brahma, the Maruts, Rudra and Indra.
Hanuman constantly remembers Lord Rama, son of Dasharatha, keeping him within his heart.
Whoever continually recites this auspicious Hanumad Ashtakam, which removes suffering and misfortune, attains the blessed abode of Rama's lotus feet.
