Presenti anche le élite occidentali: dal presidente del Consiglio europeo Antonio Costa, alla presidente della Commissione europea Ursula von der Leyen, passando per i primi ministri di molti Paesi per finire a Carlo Calenda. Mentre gli edifici di Stato delle nazioni europee si coloravano della bandiera ucraina, la Russia ha fatto sapere che secondo fonti di intelligence, Francia e Regno Unito starebbero pensando di fornire a Kiev equipaggiamenti nucleari. "Probabilmente sanno già come potrà finire", ha commentato il presidente russo Vladimir Putin. La smentita (prevedibile) dei Paesi interessati è arrivata alcune ore dopo.
"La comunità internazionale - dice il cardinale Pierbattista Pizzaballa, patriarca dei Latini a Gerusalemme - non permette alla Russia di fare in Ucraina quello che permette a Israele di fare in Palestina". Una analisi, secondo il reporter Giorgio Bianchi - che ha maturato lunga esperienza sul campo del conflitto sin dai fatti dei Euromaidan - che descrive il "nuovo ruolo dell'egemone". "In questo senso - ci spiega in diretta a Un Giorno Speciale - si vede la differenza tra l'egemone, gli Stati Uniti, e tutti i suoi satelliti, accoliti e quant'altro, tra cui c'è anche Israele, che appunto la Russia non può chiudere la guerra alla maniera degli Stati Uniti o di Israele".
