Genuinely this was some of the most fun I’ve ever had car shopping because the criteria was very open: pretty much anything electric, except for three brands. I’ve already had a long term Nissan Leaf, I’ve had two Teslas, and technically I’ve had two Lucids. Lucid bought back my super finicky air, and so my plan was to replace it with the Rivian R2, but my build date still hasn’t come up, and the Lucid was going away, so I wanted something until I could get my Rivian.
But Lucid actually had this covered, as they offered me a long-term Gravity that I could use until the end of this year, at which point I’d probably get my Rivian order placed. But less than a week passed, before the Lucid Gravity’s window wouldn’t go up, even with multiple vehicle resets. Yes, the window on a brand new press car would only occasionally work. I sent the car back to service, and decided to cut my losses, because it was apparent Lucid and I are like water and oil. No matter how much you stir, it’s not gonna work out.
So while I wait for the Rivian order, I thought what the heck, I’ll buy a car that’s already taken it’s huge depreciation hit, and then sell it when I get the Rivian. And since the intent was just a short-term use, I wanted to try something different, so not a Nissan, not a Tesla, not a Lucid. I wanted something weird, something different. I just said that. That’s when I landed on the Genesis GV60 Performance in highlighter yellow-green. I think Genesis is making some of the best interiors in modern cars, regardless of price range, and I found one nearby. Well it sold the day I called the dealer about it, and it turns out not many people have as bad of visual taste as I do, so finding another highlighter GV60 Performance proved challenging.
That’s when I spotted this Mach-e GT Performance, in highlighter orange. This is a 2022 Mach-E, that I bought for almost exactly half of its MSRP, which was $73,290.00. Yes, a one-owner, perfectly clean, well maintained, 16,000 mile Mach-e with all the bells & whistles lost well over $35,000 in depreciation in just four years. Sounds like a great deal to me; I’m in.
