Kepala Staf TNI Angkatan Laut Laksamana Arief Kushariadi melepas keberangkatan KRI Arung Samudara berlayar mengelilingi dunia. Kapal ini telah belayar mengelilingi dunia semenjak 14 April 1996 selama satu tahun satu bulan. KRI Arung Samudera telah melawat ke, Kepulauan Chagos, Kepulauan Cocos, Seychelles, Yaman Selatan, Arab Saudi, Mesir, Italia, Spanyol, Prancis, Maroko, Kepulauan Karibia, Panama, Meksiko, Hawaii, Jepang, Hong Kong dan Singapura.KRI Arung Samudera atau (KRI ARSA) adalah kapal perang Indonesia berbentuk kapal layar dengan tiga tiang layar, yang mempunyai anak buah kapal sejumlah 16 orang. Kapal ini dipimpin oleh Mayor Darwanto sebagai komandan kapal, bersama beberapa perwira sebagai berikut: Kapten Soetarmono sebagai palaksa (XO), Kapten Sugeng sebagai perwira navigasi dan operasi, Letnan satu dr. Soni Priartso sebagai perwira kesehatan, Letnan satu Agus Deby Hartawan sebagai perwira dinas penerangan, Letnan dua Waluyo sebagai kepala mesin dan Letnan dua Putu sebagai perwira logistik.
Sebelumnya kapal ini bernama "Adventure" jenis "3-Mast-Gaffelschoner" buatan tahun 1991 di Auckland, Tauranga, New Zealand. Panjang kapal keseluruhan 39,40 m, lebar 6,45 m, kedalaman (draught) 2,60 m, luas layar 434 m2, kekuatan mesin 2 x 148 PS Ford-Diesel.
