تابستان سال ۱۹۹۷، حسگرهای زیرآبی در اقیانوس آرام صدایی عجیب و فوقالعاده قدرتمند ثبت کردند؛ سیگنالی که از هزاران کیلومتر دورتر هم قابل شناسایی بود و بعدها با نام «بلوپ» (Bloop) شناخته شد.
