Menyikapi kabar tersebut, Mahfud MD akui bersedia bergabung dalam komite Reformasi Polri tersebut.
Singkatnya, alasan Mahfud ingin berkontribusi dalam hal perbaikan tubuh Polri agar memiliki citra yang bagus di mata masyarakat.
Mahfud MD menyebut, Polri kehilangan kultur dan budaya pengabdian.
Bahkan ia jelaskan, memang ada tiga hal yang harus diperbaiki dalam kaitannya dengan penegakan hukum, yakni aturan, aparat dan budayanya atau instrumen, struktur dan kulturnya.
Selanjutnya terkait instrumen, ia menilai sudah banyak aturan terkait kepolisian yang sudah bagus terkait aturannya.
Mahfud menyebut tidak banyak yang perlu dirombak.
Kultur buruk dari kepolisian inilah yang dinilai buruk oleh masyarakat dan menyebabkan tidak adanya meritokrasi di institusi tersebut.
Maka dari itu, Mahfud MD bersedia terlibat dalam reformasi polri yang akan dibuat Prabowo ini.
Namun, terkait posisinya dalam komite tersebut, Mahfud tidak terlalu memikirkannya.
Kemauan untuk bergabung ke komite Refirmasi Polri ini, kata Mahfud, ia lakukan sebagai bentuk kontribusinya bagi negara.
Mahfud hanya ingin menyampaikan catatan penting untuk kebaikan Polri.
Bahkan, Mahfud MD menjelaskan, yang perlu digarisbawahi dirinya hanya ingin membantu Prabowo dalam hal Reformasi Polri.
Perihal kebijakan politik, ekonomi, rancangan undang-undang perampasan aset (RUU Perampasan Aset) hingga Pilkada, itu semua Mahfud serahkan ke Prabowo.
