El presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, confirmó el 15 de octubre haber autorizado a la Agencia Central de Inteligencia (CIA, por sus siglas en inglés) a realizar operaciones encubiertas en Venezuela, lo que generó la condena inmediata del mandatario venezolano, Nicolás Maduro.Trump acusó a Caracas de facilitar el ingreso ilegal de presos y de traficar drogas, aunque sin presentar pruebas. Consultado sobre si había autorizado el asesinato de Maduro, el presidente se negó a responder.
